3 Great Superintendent Chalmers Moments on The Simpsons
By Grant Butler
Principal Skinner lives in fear of him, but Superintendent Gary Chalmers is one of many characters on The Simpsons who’s always entertaining to watch. He may be arguably the most normal person on the show, but that doesn’t mean he doesn’t have his fair share of classic moments.
Here are three of Superintendent Chalmers’ best moments on The Simpsons.
Lisa’s Date with Density
While on a visit to Springfield Elementary, Superintendent Chalmers’ car is vandalized when the “H” is stolen off his new 1979 Honda Accord. He is predictably upset and Principal Skinner orders a search for the culprit, who turns out to be Nelson Muntz.
Lisa Gets an “A”
When Lisa cheats on a test, it winds up boosting the school’s collective GPA enough so that it qualifies enough for an education grant. The funding that it provides means that the school’s computer lab finally has an actual working computer. Principal Skinner walks in there with Lisa and Superintendent Chalmers and they encounter Ralph Wiggum, who is using it. Looking up, he greets Lisa and “Super Nintendo Chalmers” before saying he’s “learnding.”

While hosting Superintendent Chalmers at his house for dinner, Principal Skinner is forced to improvise as he copes with one mishap after enough. After burning the dinner he was attempting to make, Skinner goes to Krusty Burger and gets some burgers and fries instead.
Superintendent Chalmers notices the similarity, but Skinner claims that they’re “steamed hams.” He clearly doesn’t buy it, but it seems that the entertaining sight of Skinner bluffing his way through dinner is enough to make Chalmers not care enough to argue with him. After Skinner tells a blatant lie about the Aurora Borealis, Superintendent Chalmers leaves the Skinner residence just as the house catches on fire.
But in recent years the whole “steamed hams” moment from this particular encounter between Skinner and Chalmers has gone viral as an internet meme.
