Whether you're a casual Bob's Burgers fan or have been watching since the beginning, most people know about the show's holiday episodes. In particular, the series shows a lot of love for Thanksgiving.
Considering that Thanksgiving is Bob's favorite holiday, it makes sense. While the show has tackled a lot of storylines for Thanksgiving, nothing holds a candle to the show's first Thanksgiving episode, "An Indecent Thanksgiving Proposal."
In this episode, we learn about Bob's love for Thanksgiving but Mr. Fischoeder has an even better deal which is that he'll borrow Linda and the kids to try to get an old flame back. Meanwhile, Bob will pose as the cook. In the end, the family will get multiple months of free rent so it's a win-win yet things don't go to plan. Since it's set to be a dramatic Thanksgiving day with Mr. Fischoeder, Linda comes up with a brilliant idea.
Since it's a play, she's going to sing a song and her Thanksgiving song is interesting to say the least. If you've been on the internet near Thanksgiving, you've probably heard the familiar tune. Affectionally called "Kill the Turkey," this song is an absolute must-listen if you're needing some extra pep this Thanksgiving season.
"Kill the Turkey" is a must-listen for the Thanksgiving season.
When Linda first starts the song, Bob has no interest in it, and rightfully so. At base, the song is completely unhinged. Regardless, that's what makes it such a good listen and something that we all come back to year after year. While Bob's Burgers has introduced other Thanksgiving songs, this one still holds the candle as the best.
Diving into some of the lyrics, Linda starts off by singing: "Pass the cranberry sauce, we're having mashed potatoes. Oh, the turkey looks great." At first, that doesn't sound too bad because most of us are already thinking about our Thanksgiving eats. Getting into the second version, things are a bit different: "Thank you for loving me. Thank you for being there. Everyone's thanking. The whole world's thanking us, thanking us for thanking you." The song then ends with "Kill the turkey!" which is where the title comes from.
The Bob's Burgers crew gave us an even longer version during the credits of the episode yet the short version is the one most people remember. Regardless of which one you prefer, there is no denying Linda Belcher started a trend with people singing and liking Thanksgiving songs. While it's unclear if this trend will continue with season 15, Thanksgiving is such a huge part of Bob's Burgers.
Thankfully, all of the Bob's Burgers Thanksgiving episodes are streaming on Hulu. No one will blame you if you rewatch "Kill the Turkey" a few times. It's such a great way to get you in the spirit thanks to Bob's Burgers.
