Good morning, USA! We've got a feeling that it's going to be a wonderful fall because American Dad! will return with brand-new episodes. Following the conclusion of season 20 in December 2023, fans have had to wait a bit longer than usual for the next season to begin, likely because of the delays caused by the actors' and writers' strikes last fall.

But American Dad! fans don't have to worry. Just because the wait has stretched to almost one year since the previous season's finale, that shouldn't cause concern. The show hasn't been canceled! We will be getting a whole new season in no time, and there's already an extended preview of season 21 that was shared by TBS this summer.

If you have been waiting impatiently to check out Roger's next collection of absurd aliases, which ones make a comeback, and what's next for the Smith family's shenanigans, here's what to know about the season 21 release window, sneak peek clips, and more!

American Dad! season 21 will premiere fall 2024

On July 29, the official American Dad! Instagram account announced that the new season would be making its premiere on TBS in fall 2024. The reveal of the release window arrived after the account had dropped a five-minute sneak preview of the episodes and a tease of what's to come, including the return of Raider Dave, a Christmas episode, and Roger meeting his... dad?!

Since season 15, American Dad! has aired new episodes on TBS on Mondays at 10 p.m., which seems to remain the show's timeslot with season 21's premiere this fall, likely in either October or November.

In the comments on an Instagram post featuring the five-minute sneak peek, a fan asked if season 21 would feature the fan-voted drag queen character, to which the account responded, "YES but it's later in the season so we have to wait." There was no mention or appearance in the preview reel of Roger's winning drag character Gelantiné Lycheé, but that's something to look forward to!

American Dad! was renewed for two more seasons back in December 2021, which accounts for seasons 20 and 21 (though Deadline and streaming services refer to them as seasons 18 and 19). The episode counts weren't confirmed at the time of the renewal, but beginning with season 13, which was the first full season on TBS, each season has contained 22 episodes.

Even though the strikes could have an impact on the season's episode count, with the extended hiatus since last December, it's looking likely that fans should be avoiding any cuts in episode count or long breaks in the season. Animated series have historically managed to make up for lost time much more quickly than their live-action counterparts.

How to watch American Dad! online

If you're hoping to catch up on season 20 before season 21 begins this fall, or you're finally going to watch the previous season if you missed it the first time around, it's available to watch on Hulu. As mentioned above, the season is categorized as season 18 on streaming services. It's confusing, but when you're looking for the most recent season on streaming, it's "season 18."

Before Sept. 30, the complete season 20 wasn't available to watch on Hulu. But as of Sept. 30, episodes 16-22 are now available to stream on Hulu with the rest of the season. In order to stream American Dad! on Hulu, you will need to be subscribed to the platform. You can do so with a monthly or annual basic ad tier or ad-free subscription, or a bundle with either Disney+ or Disney+ and Max.

Likewise, if you're looking to get prepared to watch American Dad! season 21 as it airs, you can do so with a Hulu + Live TV plan, which offers TBS as an available channel. A subscription to this particular plan can run you anywhere between $76 to $90 monthly, with prices set to increase in October 2024. Personally, the best bet's probably waiting for streaming or catching the episodes on demand.
