This October, get ready to spend the holiday with Velma and the Mysteries Inc. gang as Max is about to bring fans a brand new Halloween special of its animated hit Velma

Velma: This Halloween Needs to Be More Special will arrive Thursday, Oct. 3 exclusively on Max, and promises to bring fans a fun Halloween adventure as Velma’s friends search for the dark spellbook needed to bring her back while avoiding the wrath of a vengeful spirit. If they hope to make it out alive for the annual Sexy Halloween party, Velma and her friends will have to face their biggest fears!

While we don’t know how long the special episode will be, we do know Velma: This Halloween Needs to Be More Specia will bring back the show’s talented voice cast led by Mindy Kaling in the title role of Velma. Also confirmed for the special are Glenn Howerton, Sam Richardson, and Constance Wu. Additional cast includes Russell Peters, Sarayu Blue, Jane Lynch, Wanda Sykes, Frank Welker, Nicole Byer, Gary Cole, Andia Winslow, Sara Ramirez, Nicholas Braun, Fortune Feimster, Jennifer Hale, Richard Kind, Jason Mantzoukas, Saweetie, Debby Ryan, and Kulap Vilaysack.

Velma hasn’t been renewed for season 3 yet

Interestingly, news of the Velma: This Halloween Needs to Be More Special comes as Velma sits in limbo with the show’s future unclear at Max.

The show’s second season wrapped up on April 25, and there has been no word from Max regarding whether a third season is officially in the works. One would think the decision to release a holiday special bodes well for the show’s future; however, there’s a pretty good chance Velma season 3 might not be happening

Since its debut, Velma has been plagued with negative reviews and has a 10% score on Rotten Tomatoes, with the show failing to develop a strong following despite its connection to one of the most successful animated franchises.

Max was quick to hand out the show’s season 2 renewal, but months have passed since season 2 was released and there has been no word about the show’s future which is never a good thing. It’s also not promising that Max pulled back quite heavily with the promotion of Velma’s second season, with the season releasing without much publicity from the brand.

Of course, with Max dropping a Halloween special, there seems to still be hope that Velma season 3 could happen. We’ll just have to wait to see whether Max decides to roll the dice on the show and bring it back for another season, or close the book on this Scooby-Doo franchise with Velma: This Halloween Needs to Be More Special serving as a final farewell for the show.

Don’t miss Velma: This Halloween Needs to Be More Special when it drops on Max on Thursday, Oct. 3.
