Family Guy: 5 things we want to see in season 23
Family Guy generously gave the audience hilarious, solid content while remaining true to their elements. It's no wonder the sitcom has continued to bring the ratings for over two decades. As season 23 is around the horizon, we FG fans have compiled a wish list of potential storylines while acknowledging the original criteria that made Family Guy what it is.
Season 23 will premiere mid-season on Fox as a member of its Sunday's Animation Domination block. While the season is already set with its episodes, narratives, and set-up, there's still hope that we'll have our wishes granted. The show will remain iconic as it is; nothing will ever squelch that, but it'll be cool to see our suggestions make it to the show.
5 things we want in season 23 of Family Guy
Another crossover
When Family Guy crossed over with another hit Fox show, The Simpsons, back in 2014, it was an instant smash. You have these two great TV families competing to be the best, only to have downright entertaining segments between the Griffins and the Simpsons.
As such, it'll be 'freakin' sweet' to have another crossover. Our pick would be The Orville-Seth MacFarlane's sci-fi spoof that ran for three seasons. While a fourth season is still up in space with Hulu, having Family Guy and The Orville merge into one would be a great move, seeing how MacFarlane created both shows and it would satisfy our season 4 cravings.
Also, consider this my beg to MacFarlane by having one of his The Orville guest stars appear!
Another musical number (or two)
When you throw in a catchy musical number into a comedy, don't be surprised to find yourself dancing along with it. That's what made Family Guy popular since its debut in 1999 and without the "showtunes," it'll not have that vital characteristic.
Some of my favorites include "This House Is Freakin' Sweet," "Freakin' FCC," and the "Road To The North Pole" soundtrack. That episode evolved the way I viewed holiday music, and therefore, finding myself opting toward cheerier and nondenominational carols of the season. They're fun and spiritually enlightening, which is one of the aspects of the holdays.
Brian and Stewie will travel to China with Rupert in the upcoming season, creating the perfect opportunity to inject a number into the plot. Doing so will only enhance the Family Guy canon and lore.
Giving Meg Griffin some much needed respect
Since season one, Meg has been the brunt of jokes, mostly from Peter. The reasoning behind this is unclear, but it might have to do with Meg being the only daughter and lacking talent, or she's simply the "Black Sheep" of Quahog. Had she been a real-life person, she wouldn't have so much abuse and hatred. But the rules of reality don't apply in animation, and therefore, Meg's abuse is crafted as dark humor and a long-running humor gag. It also makes her personification melancholy and vengeful, but again, it's a limb of the show.
There have been instances where Meg was treated with kindness and respect, but the incorporated storylines were finished in vain, and people were back to treating her as less than nothing. It would be a good turn on the show if the writers were nicer to Meg for more than one episode. Why not begin in season 23?
Give Stewie and Brian even more screen time
Stewie and Brian are the core reasons fans love the show, as the pair make a delightful "couple." Through their adventures, they sailed on the doomed Titanic, ventured across Europe, and even rode a boxcar back to Rhode Island. It's always so much fun and dimension to watch them together. Stewie, with his ingenious gadgets, and Brian is the reasoning. "Peter, Peter Pumpkin Cheater" made the Stewie-Brian arc even more profound, and it only took a teddy bear to make it better.
But unlike the rest of these wishes, this one will be met.
A bushel of guest stars
Glen Powell celebrates Halloween with Peter and his friends in the epic Hulu special that sets the tone for potential guest stars to come forward. In the past, the late Adam West, Lauren Conrad, the late Carrie Fisher, Drew Barrymore, Alfonso Ribeiro, The Simpsons' cast, and countless others have lent their voices, and now it's time to introduce some new ones.
The celebrities currently trending are Taylor Swift, Patrick Mahomes, Jennifer Lopez, and Travis Kelce, and they'd be great additions to the FG legacy.
No matter if our "needs" are materialized in season 23, it'll still deliver the fan engagement and laughs.
