Family Guy: Who are the voice actors behind the characters?
Family Guy has redefined the animation spectrum since its launch in 1999—that's 25 years if you're counting—and while met with controversy, the show is a continuing success. Seth MacFarlane is the man who made us fall in love with the dysfunctional Griffin family and become absorbed in their New England lifestyle. It's no Newport living, but you don't need an oversized Gilded Age mansion and a bevy of butlers to enjoy life. There's plenty of activity occurring at 31 Spooner Street to keep us entertained.
While it takes a hardworking team to create Family Guy, like the animators, writers, and network leniency, it's the voices that bring the characters to life and give them their personalities.
Who are the voice actors behind Family Guy?
The Family Guy voice actors: Who is who?
Seth MacFarlane
MacFarlane transforms his voice for several characters on the Fox show. He does the voices for Peter Griffin, Stewie Griffin, Brian Griffin, Carter Pewterschmidt, Dr. Hartman, Tom Tucker, God, Seamus, Quagmire, the Griffin ancestors, Jasper, and the Kool-Aid Man.
The easiest one for him to is Brian, as it's his own original speaking voice.
Outside of Family Guy, MacFarlane created and starred in The Orville, a satirical series of Star Trek and Star Wars. He has even released albums set in a jazzy aesthetic and swing.
Alex Borstein
Borstein provides the nasally voice of Lois Griffin, her mother Babs Pewterschmidt, and reporter Trisha Takanawa. She has won a Primetime Emmy for her role as Lois.
Seth Green
Green has been doing voiceover work since he was a child, but he's best known for his role as Chris Griffin and Neil Goldman-the geek who has a longstanding, non-receptacle crush on Meg. For Adult Swim, Green created the stop-animation comedy, Robot Chiclen from 2001 to 2022.
Mila Kunis
Kunis joined Family Guy in its second season, taking over the role of the only Griffin daughter, Meg, from Lacey Chabert. Chabert left the series after the first episode of season 2 to concentrate on other projects and school. The young actress was a star in the teen drama Party Of Five at the time.
After Chabert's departure, Family Guy found its boom, linking Kunis as the voice of Meg. Chabert mustn't be forgotten though, as she did give us a great introduction to the character.
Patrick Warburton
Warburton voices the paraplegic policeman, neighbor, and Peter's best friend, Joe Swanson. In earlier seasons of Family Guy, Joe looked down on his disability, but that tapered off in later years.
Arif Zahir
Zahir currently voices Cleveland Brown after his original voice actor, Mike Henry, stepped down in 2020, as Characters of Color were assigned to People of Color, and rightfully so. Henry remains on the show as Herbert and Consuela, the House Keeper
Remarkably, Zahir sounds exactly like Cleveland, as if he wasn't changed. That's some great casting, if we say so ourselves.
