No, there isn't a new The Simpsons episode on tonight but here's when they'll be back

Homer will be taking the night off at Moe's.

D'oh! There's no new The Simpsons episode tonight, as Homer and his family will take a break. It's sad, but it'll give us time to catch up on season 36, watch the repeat, do a Disney+ Simpsons binge, or watch something else on another network. For instance, ABC will be airing The Wonderful World of Disney: Christmas Spectacular at 8 PM EST/ 7 PM CST.

Seth MacFarlane will perform on stage, vocalizing his crooning for "White Christmas." There's more to him than the voice of Peter and Stewie, and he has an incredible singing talent that should be shared. He even has a full-on jazzy Christmas album, dropped in 2014, that I listen to annually during the holiday season.

If the spectacular isn't your thing, you can watch The Simpsons repeat on Fox.

Tonight's encore will be "It's a Blunderful Life," season 35's Thanksgiving episode. In the episode, Lia recalls Springfield experiencing a blackout days before Thanksgiving. While the occurrence wasn't entirely Homer's fault, he takes the entire blame for it. He works at the power plant, and many of the accidents happen under his watch, but he shouldn't be blamed for the ones he isn't responsible for. But I guess it's a natural reflex.

When will The Simpsons return with new episodes?

We hate that we have to wait for a new episode, but fortunately it'll only be a week. New ones will return next Sunday, December 8th, with "Convenience Airways." While it's not a Christmas installment, it does have to do with nightmarish flight. Why does that hit hard with me?

Anyways, "Convenience Airways" will be the eighth episode of season 36, and it was initially planned to be the season premiere due to its production order. Yet, the writers thought "Bart's Birthday" would have made a better premiere, seeing how it was their idea for a possible series finale. The piece sure fooled many viewers, letting them believe that The Simpsons was ending after thirty-five years.

The show isn't disappearing anytime soon, as creator Matt Groening and showrunners Al Jean and Matt Selman want to extend it as long as possible. Jean stated at one point that if he ever plans to have a series finale, it'll loop back to the first episode from 1989, "The Simpsons Roasting On An Open Fire."

"I mentioned that there would be an ending where the last episode of [The Simpsons], they'd be going back to the Christmas pageant from the first episode so that the whole series was a continuous loop," he revealed to RadioTimes back in 2021. "That's how I would end it if I had to."

As said, "Convenience Airways" will be the next new episode. It will premiere on December 8th at 8 PM EST/7 PM CST and stream on Hulu the next day.
