Once recorded as the "fattest city in America," Springfield is slimming down. In The Simpsons season 36, episode 12, "Last Man Expanding," airing on April 6th on FOX, citizens are obsessed with dropping the pounds. It's a take on the current Ozempic trend- the injection primarily used for type II diabetes but can also be prescribed for weight management.
As everyone is losing the weight, Homer keeps his rounded figure. Although he's been influenced in the past to try new things and let's say, "explore new places," Homer isn't getting on the train this time, especially when it comes to dieting. However, he might have an issue with his choice, as it brings in some questionable characters.
Will Homer be pressured to become one of the drastic dieters, or will he rebel and tell Springfield that the drug is nothing more than an addiction?

Springfield has quibbled in fads before, such as the monorail, Mr. Burns' casino, Whacking Day, and many others, so engaging in a new one isn't at all surprising. What will be surprising, though, is that everyone, including the "pleasantly plump," has taken on new forms. And rather quickly, as that's the effects of Ozempic-like drugs.

One thing to take notice of is Marge is tempted to try the drug for herself, and while she's likely the last person who needs it, she's not exempt from doing what's popular. Remember, she felt pressurized when becoming a member of the Springfield Elite and immersed herself in high-end fashions to feel accepted. But just because something is popular doesn't mean it's right. I'd hate it for Marge to fall victim to the epidemic, as she's a mother who has to set a good example for her kids.
In Homer's eyes, his wife is absolute perfection, and he would do anything for her, so I'm hoping he'll convince Marge NOT to take the injections. Won't that be the best Homer and Marge moment on The Simpsons? Other than her calling him her "Homie" and number one snuggler.
It's going to feel weird to see the characters toned down, but there's going to be a glitch to the episode, as there always is on The Simpsons.
