The Simpsons season 36 episode 7 preview: "Women In Shorts"
It's Sunday, and you know what that means. A brand-new spanking The Simpsons episode is on tonight! I don't know about you, but season 36 has been swinging it out of the park with their stories. The premiere has fooled many fans, making them believe it was the series finale (?!), but "Bart's Birthday" was just a clever ruse to unveil season 36, and it was the cherry on top to kick off the season.
Yet, if you were to craft the perfect finale, "Bart's Birthday" should be a textbook example. It gave closure to The Simpsons as a whole, with the primary lens on Bart. The mischievous 10-year-old is one of the animated sitcom's most beloved characters, and I feel without Bart, The Simpsons wouldn't be as popular, and Homer wouldn't have a reason for his shenanigans.
Going back to the preview, what's unique about the upcoming seventh episode, "Women In Shorts," is that the Springfield ladies will have a voice to be shared and heard. It'll additionally have the same scope as season 7's "22 Short Films About Springfield." There'll be 'minisodes' surrounding the women, and it's about time the light's directed on them.
Previewing The Simpsons' "Women In Shorts"
Tonight's episode continues with season 36's glory. Titled "Women In Shorts," the installment will focus on Springfield's wise-cracking and hardworking ladies. Additionally, this production was meant for season 35, but due to the 2023 Writers Strike that affected most of Hollywood and its studios, "Women In Shorts" was pushed back until season 36. It also had the original title of "Ladies Night," but that was evidently changed recently. I'm not sure for what reason, but it is what it is.
Moving on, "Women In Shorts" was written by Christine Nangle, who previously wrote SNL skits, and she use the same formula to create humorous stories on the ladies. It's not meant to outdo the men, but while the female characters are strong representations, they're sometimes under-shadowed by the males.
Below, you can read the synopsis, see some of the promotional stills, and what will be in "Women In Shorts." I will say that there's twists and turns that no one saw coming, but is totally on brand for The Simpsons. Patty and Selma will have a story of their own for once, and maybe, it'll crack the case on Selma's daughter Ling, who has been "missing."
The synopsis:
"Girls just want to have "funny" in this episode featuring short stories about the women of Springfield."

Finally, Variety teased more regarding the "Women In Shorts," including a clip where Homer is hesitant about purchasing tampons. In fact, there's a whole song and dance routine about it that really emphasizes the point at hand.
Nangle spoke with the publication and said this on what to expect from tonight.
"The unseen lives of the women of Springfield and other sketches include Malibu Stacy’s visit to the real world, Luann’s friends helping her break her addiction to wine merch, Bernice Hibbert’s “creative attempt” at saving her marriage, and a take on the opening credits to the sitcom “The Nanny”— but for a pilot about Luigi’s mother, who heads back to law school (it’s called “Mama at Law”)."
