The Simpsons may be TV's funniest family, but there comes a time when the laughs must be placed aside, and the focus must be reset on what's happening in the world. More specifically, the animated comedy sympathizes with Los Angeles as the city recovers from the devastating LA Fires that began on January 7th.
The fires have impacted everyone and are one of the costliest and most devastating natural disasters to date. Many have lost everything, and many have contributed to ease the suffering. Disney- the parent company of The Simpsons and other Fox animated series, donated a whopping $15 million to rebuild and provide relief across Southern California.
In response to the ongoing fires, the Simpsons are with the LA citizens, standing together to back their support for the fire victims. It's a small but impactful message in hopes of bringing a sliver of joy in dark times.
The Simpsons get emotional with LA Fires post
In a January 17th social media post, The Simpsons' Instagram and X (formerly Twitter) uploaded an original Matt Groening artwork of Homer and his family standing in front of their home. His wife, Marge, and he holds up a large sign with the words, "WE LOVE YOU, LA!"
Meanwhile, the younger members of the Simpson unit express their heartfelt concern. With the tiniest smile and hopeful eyes, Bart pays tribute to the communities and everyone impacted. As the fires began in Palisades, naturally, the 10-year-old's list would honor it first. Lisa had a more depressed look on her face as she holds a bouquet of California's state flower, the poppy.
Then, there is sweet Maggie, and although she doesn't yet speak, she's offering her pink teddy bear with a printed LA T-Shirt. It's very reminiscent of season 5's "Rosebud," when the Simpson tot gave Mr. Burns' beloved teddy bear o him. The old guy had a brief change of heart, and the moment between him and Maggie was naturally expressed through kindness.
Let's not forget the four-legged Simpsons members, Santa's Little Helper and Snowball V. The pets are just as important as the dog and cat duo, representing the many displaced animals from the fires and hope they'll be reunited with their own families.
In a comment, Pasadena Humane expressed their appreciation.
"❤️❤️❤️ Special shout out to Snowball V and Santa’s Little Helper from your animal friends@pasadenahumane."
It's absolutely heart-wrenching, and I believe the post is attempting to unite people together, as the Simpsons have experienced several hardships. By highlighting the relief, others can reach out and spread their support.
The post has already received over 125,000 likes on Instagram and 77,000 on X. For the most part, The Simpsons fandom reacted positively to the image, while a few "sour grapes" responded with vitriol. Despite this, it doesn't diminish the spirit of the piece.
We stand with Los Angeles and everyone who has been impacted by disasters.
