Being a DC fan can be bittersweet. Compared to Marvel, it doesn't feel like DC Comics ever gets the credit it deserves, but the one place DC shines is with its animated shows.
Looking back at 2024, DC has released some utter gems, and going into 2025, it feels like the hits are going to keep coming. DC released season 2 of My Adventures with Superman, which aired on Adult Swim, and it blended a new art style with the familiar hero we've come to know and love. Plus, Jack Quaid does Clark's voice, so this one was bound to be a hit.
While My Adventures with Superman got another season, 2024 was a great year for DC as the brand released three new originals with plans heading into 2024. First was Kite Man: Hell Yeah! which is a spinoff of the Harley Quinn animated series. While it's a little silly at times, it's truly a great story of a hero many wouldn't think of. Plus, this one has an incredible romance so what's not to like?
Moving to the more serious side of things, Batman: Caped Crusader premiered in 2024 on Amazon Prime Video. Created in a noir style, the series follows Bruce Wayne as he's embarking on his early days as Batman. The series also gave a new look at beloved characters such as Catwoman and Barbara Gordon, aka Batgirl. Plus, our friends at Bam Smack Pow gave us an incredible review that is more than worth reading.
2025 looks to be a great year for DC animated fans.
The final series that premiered in 2024 was Creature Commandos. We've previously reviewed the first two episodes of the series, and it's a solid start. With gorgeous animation, great storytelling, and incredible characters, the series gives us everything a great animated series should. Plus, with James Gunn at its helm, there was no way this show would be bad.
One thing of note is that Creature Commandos is going to be airing into 2025, with season 1 wrapping up in January. With all the hype and love for these series, it has me excited about what's to come from DC animation in 2025.
As mentioned, Creature Commandos will air in 2025, and before you can even miss the ragtag group, season 5 of Harley Quinn is premiering on January 16th. Given the series' delay, fans are eager to see what Harley and Ivy get up to in Metropolis. Additionally, we should have an answer fairly soon on whether we'll be getting another season of Kite Man: Hell Yeah! which is something I'm hoping for, as the series was surprisingly fun.
At this point, things with DC feel so up in the air, but the good news is that we know we'll be getting more Creature Commandos and Harley Quinn in 2025. However, as far as everything else, we'll have to wait to see what James Gunn and Peter Safran have planned for its animated slate. Either way, those two projects are sure to have fans eager for what's to come.
