It's weeks until Super Bowl LIX, and Family Guy is getting their game on! Since the pilot, football has been a supporting highlight in the series, creating some hilarious and often dubious situations for the Griffin family. But the sport tends to do that to nearly every hardcore fan, as they're so passionate about their teams.
We can't wait for the Super Bowl ourselves, as it's the biggest NFL game of the year. No matter what teams will play, they'll be vying for the championship, and one lucky player will become the MVP. It's pretty exciting stuff.
To prepare you until February 9th- the day of the Super Bowl, we're playing five football-themed Family Guy episodes so you can get as excited as Peter and his friends. And maybe do the "Surfin' Bird" dance when the Chiefs (hopefully) win the game for the third year in a row.
5 football Family Guy episodes you should watch before Super Bowl LIX
"Death Has A Shadow"
Season 1
We're going back to the pilot, "Death Has A Shadow," from 1999. The episode not only kicked off Family Guy, but it aired right after Super Bowl XXXIII. It's pretty historic, and although the pilot had a few animation glitches, it remains a classic.
The plot goes as follows: Peter loses his job due to sleeping during his shift and as aresult, dangerous products were publicably released. He applied for welfare, which made a mistake in its payments of 150K. Now, Peter, being Peter, doesn't report the error to the government but instead spends the tax dollars on frivolous items. Long story short, he finds himself in court for fraud, and if it weren't for Stewie, Peter would have been in prison. And no job.
But at least he gave the money back to the people during the Super Bowl.
"Patriot Games"
Season 4
Peter attends his 25th high school reunion, only to discover he's not as successful as his former classmates. He even pretends that he's an accomplished astronaut, cowboy, and millionaire, but everyone see through his cover.
Not all is lost at the reunion. When the New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady witnesses Peter's astounding tackling moves to the bathroom, he offers him a position on the team. However, Peter becomes egotistical to the point where he's showcasing in the game and is traded to an England team.
"3 Acts of God"
Season 12
Peter and the guys are frustrated when the Patriots keep losing at the games, and after hearing that God might have something with the team's unlucky streak, they go on a quest to find Him. As it turns out, God was interfering, and he cut the guys a deal. If they can make the Patriots' coach smile, then God will stop not taking part in the game results.
"Gronkowsbees"
Season 15
Patriots star Rob Gronkowski moves into the Spooner St. neighborhood, and at first, Peter loves having him there. The glamour quickly wears off, and the neighborhood grows tired of Gronkowski's nonstop partying. They want him out, but the quarterback doesn't budge as he enjoys his environment and doesn't care what others think.
That's all good and dandy, but when your attitude doesn't respect others, than that's a problem. Gronkowski finally moves out, as Stewie's steroid-powered bees (a subplot), attacks him and his friends.
"Cop and a Half Wit"
Season 15
Stewie joins a peewee football team after being mistaken for a girl. At first, Brian is against the idea, as the baby's small stature doesn't align with the other team players, seeing how they're significantly larger than he is. It only takes one game for Stewie to receive a concussion, and Brian tries to keep it a secret from Lois, only to have been ousted by Chris.
Some good things arose from experience, as Stewie's coach was impressed by the youngster's competitive game plays. Still, it doesn't solve the problem of brain-related injuries and mental depreciation from football participation.
