Baseball has always been a favorite topic on The Simpsons, and in the season 36 episode 15 "Abe League Of Their Moe," the game is nearly shattered by an unlikely duo and addiction. Yet, things ultimately worked out, as the parties found amicable grounds.
The real highlights of "Abe League of Their Own " are the blossoming relationship between Bart and Abe and discovering more about Moe's past. However, the latter somewhat deleted canon information about our favorite bartender, and that threw me for a loop. Even with this slight writing flaw, the episode was another home run for The Simpsons books, though nothing could ever top season 3's "Homer At The Bat."
"Abe League Of Their Own" began in a sweet way with a young Grampa in 1944 was at the Springfield Isotopes game with his grandfather. To remember the time, they etched their name on the railing, with hopes that someday Abe would be able to do the same with his grandson.
As we trek on, Moe, Abe, and Bart befriend and recruit a gifted baseball player named Aeropos Walkov from Macedonia, and he's that It Guy. He becomes a local celebrity and a ladies' man, reaping the money. Walkov also becomes transfixed in the sports betting world. His act soon influences Bart, and he feels guilty. Yet, Moe continues to promote Walkov and the cash he's earning.
Moe's selfishness and careless ways create a rift between him and Abe, and they almost lose their friendship. It gets worse when Abe and Bart are relocated to sky-level seating, and the countless ads are posted all over the ball park. I understand that a game needs to be profitable, but it was a bit excessive.
Abe and Moe eventually settled the score between them and their friendship's restored. Oh, it turns out that Bart has a talent for betting and winning, despite that he's well underage, but that's a different story for a different day.
Moe Syzslak's background is changed in The Simpsons season 23 episode 15 "Abe League Of Their Own
The one issue that slightly ground my gears in The Simpsons season 23 episode 15 was how Moe's heritage background was changed. In a flashback scene, it's revealed that he's Macedonian and can speak the language fluently. In previous episodes, he has had Italian, Polish, Armenian, and even some Yeti ancestry. To be fair, his heritage mystery is a recurring joke on the show, and perhaps he's a mix of both, but I'd love to get clarification from the writers to know precisely what Moe is.
Other funny moments in The Simpsons
- Homer panics when he sees his dad and Moe together in the bar and runs away. This was the ultimate hilarious point because I think that no adult child wants to see their parents in their sacred places.
- Bart using Homer to bypass the ID verification on his phone is just too much. And the screen says that the former is 63 years old.
- Lisa helping seniors learn email is very relatable to me as I have tried teaching the platform to my older mother and she wants nothing to do with it.
There are only three episodes left this season! How it went by quickly!
